Tony Brevett, founding member of the rocksteady group Melodians, died Saturday from cancer in a Miami hospital.

Brevett who was admitted to Florida Memorial Hospital since early August, reportedly complained about stomach pains and kidney problems.

Veteran broadcaster Bob Clarke remembers Tony Brevett’s quiet persona and great singing voice.


Tony Brevett and McNaughton had been performing in the United States this year to celebrate The Melodians’ 50th anniversary.

Brent Dowe, the group’s other original member, died on January 29, 2006 from a heart attack.

The Melodians recorded a series of classic songs which included hits such as Swing and Dine, Little Nut Tree and Rivers of Babylon.
