The matriarch of the musical Bonner family has died.
Violet Bonner who is the mother of entertainers Richie Spice, Pliers, Spanner Banner and Snatcha Lion died at the Medical Associates Hospital in St Andrew on Monday after ailing for some time.
Spanner tells us he had to give his brothers Richie and Snatcha the news via telephone as they are on tour in Europe.
NO date has been set for the funeral of Violet Bonner, mother to reggae artistes Richie Spice, Spanner Banner, Pliers and Snatcha Lion.
The family is awaiting the return to Jamaica of Richie Spice — who is in France — before any funeral arrangements are made. Richie left the island last weekend for several concerts in Paris.
Bonner — affectionately called Auntie Vie — widow and matriarch of the Bonner family, died in the Andrews Memorial Hospital in St Andrew on Monday due to complications associated with diabetes and other ailments. She was 74.
The Bonner brothers have among themselves produced a string of hit songs including Spanner Banner’s Life Goes On; Tease Me and Murder She Wrote from Pliers’ collaboration with Chakademus; and Earth a Run Red, Richie Spice’s breakout hit.
Mrs Bonner is survived by three daughters and a total of eight sons.
