U Roy’s Stur-Gav Hi-Fi sound system launched the career of Winston Sterling, better known as the deejay Josey Wales, longside Charlie Chaplin.
The ‘Colonel’, as he was called, was
one of those new ‘chatters’ at the mike, who played an influential role in the dancehall explosion of the early eighties.
Leggo Mi Hand’ became Wales first hit,
followed by his debut set ‘The Outlaw Josey Wales’, which established him as
a serious rival to Yellowman. He cut many memorable singles for several ace producers of that decade and continued to do so in the nineties. In 1998, Josey
Wales joined the reunited King Stur-Gav Hi Fi Sound System, touring with Charlie Chaplin, Brigadier Jerry and U-Roy.
