With over 20 albums to date, Jimmy Cliff
(born James Chambers) has always been one of the brightest stars of Jamaica’s thriving musical culture and was among the first to bring reggae to
a worldwide audience. The song ‘ Many rivers to cross’ inspired filmmaker Percy Henzell to offer him the lead in the
movie ‘The harder they come’ which featured several of his songs. It was
also his 1969 hit ‘Wonderful World, Beautiful People’ and his help with recording Bob Marley’s first single
‘Judge Not’ which promised his international success. As a songwriter Jimmy wrote hitsongs like ‘You can get
it If you really want’ for Desmond Dekker. He was awarded the Norman Manley Award for Excellence in the field of Music, Order of Distinction and in
1986 Cliff won the Grammy
Award for Reggae for ‘Cliff hanger’.
