Comedian Apache Chief, of the comedic duo Apache Chief and Sarge, died yesterday at the Spanish Town Hospital in St Catherine.
Music News understands that Apache who had been in and out of hospital receiving treatment for undisclosed ailments had one of his legs amputated recently.
Fellow comedian and friend Lemon says Apache Chief will be sadly missed.
Apache Chief and Sarge perform on numerous comedy shows for years, poking fun at each other and well known Jamaican personalities.
SHOW promoter Linval Gibbons has hailed Garnet ‘Apache Chief’ Allen, who died last week, as “the gentleman of showbiz”.
Gibbons says he worked with the comedian for over 20 years. He appeared on several Gibbon’s promotions such as Teensplash and the Mountain Dew Stunt Festival. Apache Chief, who hails from Frazer’s Content district in St Catherine, died on Thursday in the Spanish Town Hospital. He was 46.
Gibbons says the comedian had battled diabetes for a long time.
“Even when you didn’t get him and the phone went to voicemail you still had to laugh cause he had some funny greetings,” Gibbons told the Jamaica Observer.
In the last eight years, Apache formed a solid comedy team with Sarge.
Apache Chief is survived by six children.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced.
